John Duran opened the scoring in the first half, giving Villa an early advantage. Morgan Rogers extended their lead in the second half, while Phil Foden netted a late consolation goal for City during injury time.

With this win, Aston Villa, who finished fourth last season, climbed to fifth place in the league standings. Meanwhile, Manchester City endured their sixth league defeat of the season, leaving their quest for a fifth consecutive Premier League title in jeopardy. In all competitions, this marked City’s ninth loss in 12 matches.

Elsewhere in the league, table-toppers Liverpool will visit Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
