Earthquake Bomb' Moment: Massive 'Israeli Strike Hits Syria' in Most Intense Blitz in 12 Years – Triggers Earthquake Sensors
Colossal Explosion in Syria: "Heaviest Strikes in Over a Decade" Register as Earthquake
A dramatic explosion shook Syria, marking the most intense strikes in the region in over 12 years, reportedly registering as a 3.0 magnitude earthquake on seismic sensors. Video footage captured a massive mushroom-cloud fireball accompanied by deafening blasts, with reports attributing the strike to Israeli forces.
According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), the explosion occurred near Tartus in northwestern Syria and targeted a munitions depot. The SOHR also reported dozens of additional Israeli airstrikes across Syria on Sunday, focusing on weapons depots, air defense units, and surface-to-surface missile storage facilities.
Described as the "heaviest strikes in Syria's coastal region since 2012," the blitz comes amidst escalating tensions. Previous strikes in the region targeted Syrian airbases, with recent footage showing a series of hits on the Qamishli airbase in northeastern Syria.
The Israeli military has stated that these actions aim to prevent weapons and military equipment from falling into the hands of hostile forces. Iran, a long-time ally of Hamas and Hezbollah, condemned the strikes, calling them violations of Syrian sovereignty. Similarly, Qatar criticized Israel for exploiting the situation in Syria.
Israel's UN Ambassador Danny Danon described the military actions as "limited and temporary," asserting they were necessary to address immediate security threats. Meanwhile, reports emerged of Israeli tanks stationed less than 20 miles from Damascus, marking a significant military presence in the area for the first time in decades.
The Foreign Minister, Gideon Sa’ar, stated that Israel's actions aim to prevent an "October 7 scenario," while Prime Minister Netanyahu emphasized the need to secure the Israeli border and prevent hostile forces from gaining a foothold near the country.
