IRGC intelligence will continue operations despite Khademi’s death

Iran Revolutionary Guards’ intelligence chief killed in strike, reports say

The head of the intelligence arm of Iran’s elite Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps was killed on Monday in what Iranian media described as a “terrorist attack by the American-Zionist (Israeli) enemy,” citing a statement from the Guards.

Majid Khademi is the latest senior figure to be killed in US-Israeli air strikes. He assumed the role in 2025 after his predecessor was killed in an Israeli strike.

Khademi had spent decades working in intelligence and counter-espionage, steadily rising through Iran’s security ranks. Prior to his appointment, he led the Guards’ Intelligence Protection Organisation, which is responsible for internal surveillance and counter-intelligence, and also held senior positions within Iran’s defence ministry.

The IRGC’s intelligence branch is one of the country’s most powerful security institutions. It plays a key role in domestic surveillance aimed at countering foreign influence and often operates alongside, and sometimes parallel to, the civilian intelligence ministry.
